About MB Pottery
MB Pottery is the labour of love of Michelle Baldwin, a potter with a love of functional ceramics, beautiful glazes and the occasional inappropriate word.
Michelle first wandered into a pottery class in 2019, looking for a new hobby and a way to unwind from a busy and stressful day job. It didn’t take long for “a relaxing hobby” to become a full-blown pottery addiction.
Before long, she had set up her own studio at home, acquired a kiln and accumulated far more glazes than any reasonable person could possibly need. MB Pottery was born.
Inspired by the rich pottery traditions of her hometown of Temuka, New Zealand, Michelle creates handmade ceramics that are designed to be used, loved and enjoyed. Her work is primarily functional — mugs you actually drink from, bowls you reach for every day, and pieces that become part of the everyday rituals of home.
“I love knowing that the things I make head out into the world and become part of people’s lives. To be fair, most of my pottery has a better social life than I do.”
Alongside MB Pottery sits Michelle’s slightly less respectable alter ego, Zero Flux Given — a popular range of cheeky, sweary and occasionally inappropriate ceramics.
Much to her husband’s disappointment, the swear ware isn’t going anywhere.
You’ll find both the beautiful and the badly behaved right here — all handmade with love, humour and probably a little too much glaze.
MB Pottery — handmade to be used, enjoyed and given a good life.

For swear ware - never fear, I am a connoisseur of all the words and can spell them very well. Stamping filth into clay is the most cathartic part of this hobby!!
Handmade Pottery Care
Made by hand. Made to be used. Made to be loved. 🤍
Your pottery has been handmade, so a little variation in shape, colour and glaze is part of its charm — no two pieces will ever be exactly alike. Some people make pottery so they are like sisters, not twins, mine are more like second cousins, twice removed.
-
Dishwasher: Dishwasher safe, but hand washing is the gentlest option and will help keep your piece looking fabulous for longer.
-
Microwave: Microwave safe unless otherwise stated. Like all ceramics, pieces can become hot, so handle with care.
-
Oven: Avoid putting pottery into a very hot oven or exposing it to sudden temperature changes unless the piece is specifically sold as oven-safe.
-
Thermal shock: Avoid taking a piece straight from the fridge and filling it with boiling water, or putting a hot piece onto a cold/wet surface.
-
Staining: Tea, coffee and strongly coloured foods may occasionally leave marks. A gentle soak with baking soda can help.
-
Metal marks: Grey marks from cutlery are usually metal deposits rather than scratches and can often be removed with a gentle ceramic cleaner.
-
Chips & cracks: If a piece becomes badly chipped or cracked, especially around the rim or inside a food surface, it’s best to retire it from food use.
Most importantly — use it!
I make functional pottery to have a life outside the cupboard. Fill it with coffee, wine, flowers, snacks, questionable amounts of cheese… whatever makes you happy.
